England have done fairly well at the Euros so far. They topped their group without conceding a goal and have displayed a professional attitude in all their matches. The only weakness of their play has been their attack.
England have just scored 2 goals and that is largely down to the fact that Harry Kane is yet to score a goal.
“Harry Kane has to wake up and arrive at the European Championships now,” Sven Goran-Eriksson told Ladbrokes.
“Everyone knows what he can do, but for some reason, he hasn’t been successful so far in this tournament. I think it will come; he can win the Euros for England,” he added.
Eriksson also expressed his belief that Raheem Sterling should retain his place in Southgate’s line-up, before talking up Jack Grealish as a potentially match-winning option for the current Three Lions boss.
“Southgate has so many attacking options, but for me Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling must play from the start,” added the Swede.
“Then the most important thing is executing the right system, and picking the players accordingly. Do you play two up front or two wingers? Do you go with two or three at the back?
“I don’t know if he’s going to start the game, but Jack Grealish is the game-changer. He’s fantastic. But there are so many other options. It’s good to have these options, but at the same time, you need balance – especially for the game against Germany.”
All the world class strikers at the tournament have scored a couple of goals at least. Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski, despite all being knocked out, have scored at least 3 goals apiece. Even the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Memphis Depay, Ciro Immobile and Alvaro Morata have scored a couple of goals or more.
Harry Kane has been fundamental to England’s success recently and his goal scoring record for England speaks for his class. He has to step up before it’s too late. England face Germany in their round of 16 clash today and this presents a great opportunity for Harry Kane to showcase his ability.
