Jamshedpur FC midfielder Aitor Monroy stated that his team will be looking to book their place in the playoffs in the upcoming seventh edition of the Hero Indian Super League. Jamshedpur has thus far played three seasons in the ISL but they haven’t been able to break into the top four of the tournament.
Thus, they will be looking to turn the tables and break the hoodoo. Meanwhile, Jamshedpur FC had finished the previous season at the eight place as they could only win four matches out of the 18 they played in the league stages.
“We are here to be in the playoffs. We are eager to change the trend this year. Once we are in the top-four, we fight. In the history of JFC, this has never happened and it is high time we change this. After that we analyse game by game,” sportstar.thehindu.com quoted Monroy as saying.
On the other hand, Monroy doesn’t want his team to dwell on the past and he wants to come up with consistent performances in the upcoming season.
“The past is gone and we have to live in the present. We have to show positive energy and passion on the field. We need to back ourselves to begin the season on a high. We moved out of quarantine only a few days ago and are training very hard,” he said.
Meanwhile, Jamshedpur FC have received a major boost as they will be coached by Owen Coyle, who had taken Chennaiyin FC to the final of the previous season. Furthermore, they have signed the services of Nerijus Valskis, who was the joint top scorer with 15 goals in the last edition of the league.
Monroy added that both of them come with a winning mentality and it is going to help their team in coming up with consistent performances.
“They come with a big match-winning mentality. The coach has the passion to win games. That is very important. I know Valskis from before. He has the ability to score goals. For a team to have a goal scorer like this presents good vibes,” he said.
Jamshedpur FC will begin their campaign against Chennaiyin FC at Tilak Maidan Stadium in Vasco on 24th November.
