Chennaiyin FC recent overseas signing Jakub Sylvestr is all impressed by the level of Football in the Hero Indian Super League. Sylvestr feels that the ISL has taken giant strides in the last six seasons from its inception and the quality of the players is right up there with the best.
The Slovakian striker has joined hands with the two times champions Chennaiyin FC and he would aim to give his best. Sylvestr will need to fill in the big shoes of Nerijus Valskis at Chennaiyin FC. Valskis was the joint highest goal scorer in the previous season as he has found the net on 15 occasions but he has made a move to Jamshedpur FC.
The 31-year old is hopeful of hitting the ground running for Marina Machans.
“In the last few years, the league (Hero ISL) has been improving rapidly. The quality of players coming in, and the quality of football being played is very good. I am sure it will be a competitive season. I will try to do my best, and try to bring my experience from the many countries and clubs I have played in. All of us players need to strike a good chemistry and play for each other. We will achieve success if we are united,” said Sylvestr while talking to the club’s website.
On the other hand, Sylvestr revealed that his style of playing is very simple and he backs his strength to get the best out of himself. Sylvestr is a livewire on the field and he has the speed to outrun the opposition defenders.
“I would say my style is simple. I am a hardworking player who likes to be very active and involved in things. I love to score goals. And that is my job too! I consider myself a fast and agile striker, something that I hope gives me an advantage over the opposing defenders,” he shared.
Sylvestr added that head coach Csaba Laszlo played a key role in his move to Chennaiyin FC. The 31-year old also revealed that he shares a good camaraderie with the coach.
“Talking to him at length has helped me take the decision to come to Chennaiyin FC and India. It has given me full belief in his plans, and that he knows me and believes in my abilities. He likes my style of play and he is confident that I will help the team achieve the goals, which is to win,” he said.
The seventh season of ISL 2020-21 will be played behind closed doors in Goa from 21st November.
