India among the aspiring Olympics hosts said IOC President Thomas Bach

India is growing as a multi-sport nation. There has been an evident growth in sports culture among the people. The Indian contingent at the Tokyo Olympics has returned with the highest medal tally of seven medals which includes a gold medal along with two silver medals and four bronze medals.

India as a nation now is looking forward to hosting an Olympics in the near future. The country is keen to host the Olympics in 2036, 2040 and beyond, said International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach.

Brisbane, Australia was selected as the host city for the 2032 Olympics. The International Olympics Committee enjoys a lot of aspiring hosts who want to take the initiative in future Summer Games and India is definitely in the mix as Bach stated in the Wall Street Journal.

Apart from India, the aspiring countries include Indonesia, Qatar and Germany.

“And this is just the ones which come to my mind. So we are really in a very good long-term position,” Bach was quoted as saying by the WSJ.

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia have made some tall claims to upgrade the infrastructure and then bid for the 2048 Games. They have this target as the 20248 Olympics will also be a celebration of 100 years of independence for the country.

India has shown its interest in hosting sporting events like the Asian Games and Youth Olympics. The 2030 and 2034 Asian Games were handed to Qatar and Riyadh, respectively, in December.

Indian Olympic Association general secretary Rajeev Mehta confirmed that they keep no stone unturned to host major events in India.

“In a meeting of an IOC Commission via video conference before Tokyo Olympics, IOA had expressed interest in hosting Olympics in 2036 and beyond,” Mehta said.

For now, India will look to do well at the 2024 Paris Olympics and their main aim will be to better the medal tally of Tokyo. India have seen several athletes in unique sports like gold, judo, fencing, equestrian and many more. They need more participation and fight in more and more disciplines and for that, systematic growth and nurturing of different sports is required from the grassroots level.

While the progress is evident, the pace is pretty slow. However, the authorities are hopeful that India will get to host an Olympics in the near future.
