There’s a whole new universe for the online game lovers: eSports is the collective term that describes competitive and organized video gaming, taken to a very professional level. Competitors from different teams or leagues play against each other in the same games that are popular between “average” players at home – League of Legends, Counter-Strike and Dota 2.
Professional gamers usually win a big amount of money as prizes and are watched and followed by millions of fans all over the world. They can see their favourite gamers playing in real-time by attending live events or streaming services.
The players have a practice and training routine just as a professional football player has. Depending on the type of game, there are some tournaments and special events every year with huge amounts of money as prizes.
A professional eSports team usually has a manager, a coach and an analyst, in addition to a second-string. All of them have a signed contract and a training schedule in a gaming office or gaming house.
Below you can get to know a little more about eSports most popular games.
League of Legends
League of Legends is a multiplayer online team-based strategy game. It is one of the most popular online battle arena (MOBA) games of all time and one of the biggest eSports. In a standard game of League, ten players are split into two teams of five powerful champions and battle it out to destroy the other’s base in a map called Summoner’s Rift. Each player controls a single character, also known as a champion.
The ultimate goal of LoL is to destroy the other team’s base. It seems easy in theory, but not in practice. Your enemies will do everything they can to destroy your base first. It is important that you begin at level 1 and gradually get stronger by gaining experience and new items bought with the gold you earn throughout the game. Eventually, one team will be able to get to the other’s base and make a final push for a victory.
CS: GO
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, or CS: GO, is a first-person shooter (FPS) online game. Basically, you play the role of a character and use weapons like guns or knives to do harm or defeat other players.
The main goal of CS:GO is shooting enemies and staying alive before the time runs out. You start teaming up with other players in a 5 versus 5 game to achieve objectives like setting up a bomb to destroy a place or rescue hostages from a terrorist’s base. During the game, you can also use a variety of other supporting accessories.
There are 5 CS:GO modes to choose from:
-
- Competitive: you play against people with the intention to win.
- Casual: a good and relaxing mode for beginners, with a more fun map pool.
- Deathmatch: this mode is also for entertainment and training. It offers a free-for-all experience where you play against all other players.
- War Games and Wingman: these two modes are mostly intended for specific training purposes, with advanced techniques.
Dota 2
Dota 2 is an online game that requires a mix of mathematics, timing, variables, problem solving, predictions, teamwork, and intuition. The main goal is pretty direct: kill the enemy’s Ancient before they kill yours. There is a variety of 100 unique heroes to choose from in the beginning of the game and they will form two teams of five players each. The players, or heroes, as they’re called, have three different skills: agility, strength and intelligence, and each one of them bring different elements throughout the game.
Dota players become good at making decisions in such a minimal time, having millions of dollars on the line, while they feel the pressure to make good moves with thousands of people watching. Any hero can level up with their skills and fill multiple roles. There are many items to help meet the needs of each game.
