India’s Test wicket-keeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha has asked Rishabh Pant to work on a few things while keeping. Saha has all the experience under his belt and Pant can make the most of it while working with the senior teammate. Both of these players were part of the two Test match series against New Zealand.
Saha stated that he discussed the nitty gritties of wicket-keeping with Pant. The Bengal keeper told Pant whatever has worked for him in his career and asked the Delhi boy to try those things out, if it works for him too. Pant is still a novice in International cricket and there is a lot of scope of improvement in his glovework.
Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant was preferred over Wriddhiman Saha in the two match Test series against New Zealand. This came as a surprise as Saha had kept the wickets in the home season. However, the southpaw batsman could not grab his chances as he scored only 60 runs in the four innings of the Test series.
“We (me and Rishabh) keep joking around. We train together and we keep talking about the game and otherwise also. He always tries to give his best. There are few things which we have had a chat about,” Saha told IANS in an interview.
“I have told Rishabh a few things which he will try according to his comfort zone. He will try during training. It’s not like he will do it for one day and it will work. So, if he feels those things will work for him, he will try and implement them in his training,” Saha said.
Saha revealed that he regularly has wicket-keeping discussions with Pant to help him grow in confidence. The veteran has great hands behind the stumps and he has done a fine job for the Indian team since the retirement of MS Dhoni from red ball version.
“It’s not like tips. It’s a discussion. I have told him these are things I follow and it makes my job easier. You can also try them and see if it works for you. See it’s very personal. But yes, we do discuss wicketkeeping.”
Meanwhile, Wriddhiman Saha had played in the Ranji Trophy final for Bengal. The right-hander scored 64 runs but his knock went in vain as Saurashtra clinched their maiden title on the basis of lead.
On the other hand, Rishabh Pant has been out of the team’s reckoning in the recent past. KL Rahul has grabbed his chances in the white ball format and Pant is mostly warming the benches. Thus, Pant will aim to get back in form and win the position back in the side.
